Stretch Your Feet

It also helps to strengthen the muscles in your foot, which may help to decrease the pain you are feeling. Take a few minutes a few times a day to stretch, flex and point your foot in order to ease the pain you may be feeling in your heel. 

Use an Ice Pack

If you are experiencing pain in your heel, an option for easing the pain is to use an ice pack on your foot. It is not recommended that you use heat, such as a heating pad, on your foot. The heat can expand the ligaments and tendons in your foot, which makes it easier for you to overextend them when walking or stretching after the heating pad has been used. Ice can help to numb the pain, which is perfect after a long day. 

Wear Sensible Shoes

One of the best tips for easing heel pain is to wear sensible shoes. If you are experiencing heel pain, look for shoes that support your foot, especially the arch of your foot. If the arch of your foot is not properly supported, your heel supports more weight than it should. This can lead to pain in your foot. Orthotics in your shoe can also help to hold your foot in place and ease some of your pain. 

Take an Over-the-Counter Pain Medications

The last way to ease the pain in your heels on your own is to use over-the-counter pain medications. If you are experiencing pain or swelling in your foot, an over-the-counter pain reliever can help to decrease the swelling and the pain. Decreasing the swelling in your heel may also help to decrease your pain level, which makes this option a win-win. If your heel is sore or painful and nothing else seems to be working, try an anti-inflammatory.
